The team is located in four different sites : École Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Brest (ENIB), École Nationale Supérieure de Techniques Avancées en Bretagne (ENSTA-Bretagne), IMT Atlantique (IMT Atl), Université de Bretagne Occidental (UBO).

Research themes

The DIM team's main asset is the combination of microwave and photonics research. Because of this diversity, the activity of research distinguishes itself by a positioning on a wide research spectrum from radiofrequency to optics, including the terahertz, relying on other disciplines such as material science and signal processing. Although the field of investigation is wide, devices and systems are the federative elements of the team that bring original solutions in various domains: telecommunications, sea, defence and health. The themes of research conducted within DIM are articulated around the following four axes: 

  • Microwaves,
  • Photonics,
  • Photonics & Microwave interaction

Research Facilities

DIM has a wide variety of highly specialised equipment and facilities spanning the diverse and wide ranging research interests of its members, be it in simulations, material characterisation or measurement techniques.  In the microwave and millimeter wave area, the team is capable of developing its own technological platforms, among which we can quote the following technologies: Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics (LTCC), foam, and more recently polymer / thermoplastic and paper based technology for microwave devices. In photonics, the team has equipment for high data rate transmission systems using coherent detection, for radio-over-fiber applications and for power transmission over fiber.
